The thing called “Love”!

Okay, first of all, I know not everyone of you is gonna read until the end of this post, but I’m still gonna write it. And second of all, I know this post is silly, but seriously I have some SERIOUS questions! Okay, may be not that serious :p

And I want some answers! Perhaps you don’t have them, but I’m gonna ask anyway!

1. What is LOVE exactly?

A boy and a girl is in a relationship, so are they in love with each other? Or is it just the concept of being in a relationship that they are in love with?

2. What is the exact definition of LOVE?

Caring for someone truly and unconditionally? But is it 100% true?

Then why do couples break up even after having years of relationships? Just because the LOVE they thought was true turned out to be not? (I know there are exceptions though! There are couples who are actually living happily ever after).

3. I don’t think there is the kind of LOVE that those disney movies or other romance flicks portray, is there?

I mean I can’t help my heart flutter everytime I read a romance novel and when the good guy does everything for the girl he loves. I mean we all yearn for that kind of LOVE, don’t we? But does that even EXIST in real life?

4. Isn’t this wrong? Portraying LOVE in ways that never actually happen in reality? My people say that there’s a fine line between real and reel life and I can’t just mix the two. But why should we then be shown what we can’t ever have in real life? 😥

5. I wish that LOVE could exist in our world in ways it does in those story books, do you too?

I don’t know why, I just feel sad. Oh Gosh! I knew this post is a bad idea. But I don’t think anybody would like to hear my useless banter in person right now, so I’m just pouring my torture in here. These thoughts somehow crossed my mind today and perplexed me.

Lastly, feel free to ignore this post! Treat it like the useless ramblings of a confused soul. :p

And Thank you, if you actually made it through to the end of this post! 😀

  1. There is a song by SWV that starts with “What is love? Love is an experience everyone should have. It’s not always fun, but it’s always special. A sweet struggle that seals that past and builds a future. A love that can weather the storm is an amazing love” I love those words. It’s true. Love isn’t like anything portrayed in the films or in books. It’s more real then that. Quite frankly it’s a pain in the butt most of the time. The experience is unique to the individual. I both love my husband and want to throttle him at the same time. It’s fun! Exhausting. Sweet. Irritating….

  2. Love this! I always think ‘what is love’ and I just don’t think it can be defined. Every person I have ‘loved’ I’ve felt different things for you. I think love changes depending on who is on the receiving end and that makes me look forward to loving someone again because I know it’s going to be different! If that makes any sense haha anyway cool post 🙂

  3. I’m all for ramblings and telling your thoughts! And I Loved reading! I too, am obsessed with fairy tale and story book romances and I think they totally exist in real life but then you also have real life problems that go with the relationship which maybe takes some of the “good for tv” romance out of it lol if I’m making sense. Happy to have befriended you!

Yaa you’re making a lotta sense! I like the way you think about LOVE. It kinds of gives me hope that the PERFECT kind actually exists but complemented with problems! 😂😂
And very glad to have you as a friend too! ^_^

  4. Your ramblings are not useless, they are needed! Ive never had a relationship or anything official but I have loved someone and it made me feel good… idk why but it did I think its just knowing that you allow to give someone such a major piece of you is just something special… regardless of the outcome.
I love this post great job made me think ♥♥

    1. Thank you sooo much!! Yes, loving someone is truly a special feeling! What I just wish is that no one ever falls out of love(then that wouldn’t be the true kind, would it? ), which has happened to a lot of my friends..it really feels bad when after having a long relationship, suddenly one of the partners says that he/she doesn’t feel for the other person anymore..it breaks the other person’s heart, and the onlookers start disbelieving in LOVE. I just wish this stops.. And thanks again for your appreciation! It means a lot!

  5. It is an emotion you feel for someone or something without even knowing it. I must say I too am a sucker for romantic stories (esp. Disney movies). They do spoil you and make you think they will last forever. But the truth is love like another emotion like anger is subject to change. You can’t always be in love just as you can’t always be angry. On the other hand, I also feel that if you love somebody with all your heart, you will feel like that princess/prince in love in those disney movies (at least for some time 😉 ).

    1. This is what saddens me.. 😥
‘Cause my definition of LOVE is the PERFECT kind, which lasts forever! But just as you said, may be it really doesn’t happen like that in reality! 😥
But thanks a lot for sharing your outlook! 😀

  6. Love is just a feeling according to me. People tend to have feelings for each other so get into a relationship. But when that feeling fades away so does that relationship. I don’t think true love exist in today’s world. People just run behind looks and wealth but no one sees the how that person is. We should not love the physical appearance but the soul instead.

    1. That’s what I feel too!! That’s why I was blaming those movies for setting such high standards of LOVE and making us believe that it actually happens..but just as you said, people run after looks and money, so the true meaning of love is disappearing..I don’t know if that’s an issue, but I feel sad…
But thanks for sharing your view! 😀

  7. Movies are just for entertainment, so it’s never reliable to depend on those in real life. I’ve thought about which movies show some realistic stuff. One movie comes to mind: Paper Towns. Haha! Have you watched it? I don’t want to spoil the ending. (It has a book but I only watched the movie so far)

Anyway. LOVE IS NOT A FEELING. 🙂 Love is a verb. It’s an ACTION word. I LOVE you. You DO something. I hope that makes sense.

For me, the relationships that fall apart are the ones that rely on their emotions, because that is not love. It’s great to have chemistry and butterflies and all that when you’re with someone… but after the “honeymoon” stage (where you just met and have googly eyes and put your best foot forward)… you learn more about the person. Things get more REAL. You see differences. You have conflicts. That’s the good part. That’s where you prove love is real. That’s when you fight to stay because the person is WORTH it.

Love is a commitment to an imperfect person, working through your differences. (And this is usually the answer when I ask older people who survived 30-40 years of marriage). 🙂

Focus on your personal development and self-value, and love will find it’s way to you. ❤

    1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

    1. I like your view! Yeah those movies sure are deceiving. And yes, I’ve read Paper Towns! Didn’t see the movie though..but there too the way Quentin goes in search for Margo, even leaving his graduation ceremony, I really wonder if that happens in reality! Even Margo couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw Quentin at last, haha! 😀
That’s what I was trying to say, that these stories have seriously set some high standards to the definition of LOVE which is actually very difficult to find in real life! But I think what you said is quite true, accepting each other’s flaws and still loving each other is the best part of falling in love! ❤

      1. Ah, what I was referring to was his search for love and the girl was like, “I didn’t leave you any clues dude.” I dont know if the book and movie had the same ending. Haha.

I have seen some people do drastic things for love in real life. Hormones and emotions can take the crazy out of us, I think. Lol.

It may be scarce lately, since love and relationships are being toned down into something more superficial. Which shouldn’t be the case. But there ARE still those who fight for love and make grand gestures.

Maybe we just need to find those people who have genuine hearts.

      2. Oh, you saw things happen in real life, so you can relate to Paper Towns! :-p
That’s good to know! Yeah, I guess both have the same ending! 😂😂😂 And I’m not sceptical! I’m just saying that I didn’t yet witness something like that happen 😂😂

      3. May I ask where you’re from? I grew up as a Filipino in Bahrain (Middle East)… and in my high school.. we were all so melodramatic. I saw girls (best friends) slapping each other for one guy. Guys serenading, getting on their knees. and giving bouquets of flowers… love letters being passed around. Is that what you are referring to? Haha

  8. There are all types of Love, so many in fact that if one would write books that circle the globe that still would not adequately define Love. LOL Love is complicated, deep, painful, ecstatic, sharing, laughter, anger so wide it spits your sides, service, kindness, intimacy, thoughtfulness, exciting, thrilling, a high so high and a low so low, ….. complex, convoluted, complicated. Yet it’s simple ’cause it’s Love. LOL 🙂 ❤

  11. I think love is meant to be the instinct that draws two people together so they bond – at least for long enough to allow the kids to learn to fend for themselves. After that, and after all the thrashing around and the passion is gone, what you are left with if you are lucky is friendship; and that lasts. If not, rather sadly, you are abandoned, to wander in search of a feeling you had twenty years ago and are too old to recapture. Interesting that movie love always rolls the credits as soon as the marriage vows are taken. Interesting post, too, BTW. Thank you for following me!

  12. We focus on young love, romantic love. Which is wonderful, no doubt about it. But true love, real love — the kind that weathers storms — is the kind you see in the eyes of an elderly couple, together for half a century. May you find it one day. ❤

  13. Came across your post and am glad i did so..There can be no philosophical definition regarding love…we mould love according to us and love for everyone is something different….but one common thing is that it ushers only the happy feelings ,even in the most turmoil periods…yeaah it does fade out at times but that is temporary ….And i will definitely thank reel world ,for it provides us with hope that our love too can be like that…what’s fault in dreaming in this mundane earth full of rat races?Be it fake ,but for some time am the princess in my imagination and he is my prince charming…

  14. ”Love is essence of the heart.”
Love existed even before that human beings existed.
The heart was created to embrace love,to cherish love,to accept love,to share love.
The heart that dosn’t love is a dead heart.
That would be my thought, inspired by your post.
    Love to you💝💞💖

  15. Love the driving force of humanity… and distorted picture of love, is it’s distruction… love is an experience, a force, a sacrifice of self… love in its purest form is unconditional….
Yes, we all love a good love story… our hearts were created to long for it…
