Book Review : What Nobody Told Me, Dubai by Danijela Cirovic

Okay, so here goes my very first travelogue review! 😁

Title: What Nobody Told Me, Dubai

Author : Danijela Cirovic

Edition : Kindle

Pages : 49

Sold by : Amazon Digital Services LLC

Synopsis :  This personal insight into one of the most magnificent cities of the Arab Peninsula comes from a journalist who fell in love with the world and dedicated her pen primarily to travel. Various interesting stories will take you strolling down the streets of old districts, hopping on sightseeing buses, exploring cultural heritage and even visiting Abu Dhabi for a day.

Excited for being able to see yet another part of this spectacular world, the author read all she could find about traveling to Dubai before her trip. Even more so, given the fact that the city is home to the tallest tower in the world and some of the most expensive hotels. Still, nothing could have prepared her for what she has encountered there.

Review :

When you read a travelogue, and it turns out to be more than that. Yep, that’s what I felt after reading WHAT NOBODY TOLD ME : DUBAI. Justifying the title, this book is about the author’s experience in Dubai during the least visited months, and that is summer! Now that’s something very little of us have any idea about as Dubai and Summer don’t really go together.

It was like walking in her shoes and exploring Dubai first hand! I really loved the narrative which was to the point and dipped in humor, almost as if you are reading a story. I think this kind of feeling can only be assembled when one becomes one with the place. So it wasn’t really the author speaking to me, it was Dubai itself!

It is a short read of 49 pages, so you can easily pick it up and finish it in one sitting. I loved how subtly inverted commas have been used to specify some of the typical terms by which we recognise Dubai. Funny and sarcastic at the same time.

To top it off, vibrant pictures illuminated the texts which were special treat to the eyes I must say. I think this book is really one fascinating read, especially if you want to know and see Dubai from a fresh, new perspective. I won’t be rating it, because real life experiences are like those rare jewels that can never be appraised.

When you get approached for a review of one of your fellow blogger’s works, you just get thrilled! I mean you have been reading her blog for quite sometime now and loving each and every article that she publishes. And now you get the opportunity of reading her very first book? You just couldn’t get any happier! Thanks to my dear friend Danijela, from Glimpses of the World blog for sharing such a beautiful piece of work with me.

All the opinions shared are entirely honest and unbiased. 😊

About the Author :

Danijela Cirovic is an experienced journalist and editor from Serbia who covered inner and foreign politics for years, worked as a correspondent from the Middle East for a certain period of time. After coping with geopolitical issues, deadlines and the stress of the job, she would pack her small bag and take off to some distant place to “recharge the batteries” every once in a while. But this is the person who can’t stop writing even if she wants to. (And she doesn’t!) So, she continued to write – this time about the journey, about lovely places and amazing encounters she had. It wasn’t long before she hopelessly fell in love with the world and decided to dedicate her pen solely to travel! One thing led to another, and Danijela has created her own travel blog Glimpses of The World, gathered the travel articles that have already been published in national newspapers throughout the years… and, well, continued to travel… and continued to write, of course. (Thus, the Dubai experience may have been partially posted by Serbian print media and/or the blog.)

  2. Lovely review! I admit that Dubai has never fascinated me although I enjoyed the scenery in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
