Author : Joya Goffney

Genre : YA Romcom
Quinn keeps lists of everything—from the days she’s ugly cried, to “Things That I Would Never Admit Out Loud,” to all the boys she’d like to kiss. Her lists keep her sane. By writing her fears on paper, she never has to face them in real life. That is, until her journal goes missing…
An anonymous account posts one of her lists on Instagram for the whole school to see and blackmails her into facing seven of her greatest fears, or else her entire journal will go public. Quinn doesn’t know who to trust. Desperate, she teams up with Carter Bennett—the last known person to have her journal—in a race against time to track down the blackmailer.
Together, they journey through everything Quinn’s been too afraid to face, and along the way, Quinn finds the courage to be honest, to live in the moment, and to fall in love.
This was one beautiful beautiful read! I said beautiful twice to emphasize, but believe me, it’s still not enough. Okay, so we all know the usual romantic comedy mantra. A clumsy girl, her hot best friend, frenemies, a thing gone wrong, and it goes on. Well, I personally relate to most of it except ofcourse, the romance (bummer!)
Anyway, this ain’t about me *crying in a corner*, this is about Quinn, our MC. Oh, there’s also this other thing that I very very relate to. The crying part obviously, if you didn’t guess it already. I’m like a religious crybaby. I was designated the title of “hole-in-the-tank” by my family when I was little. So yeah, you can picture it. Okay, I’m making this about me again, ain’t I? But the thing is, this is how relatable this book was. Again, like the MC I used to write my heart out in a journal (not so anymore though), and unlike the MC I never lost it. That’s where all the fun begins. I’m not gonna spoil the plot by elaborating it, but if you take my word for it, I can assure you that you will love it through and through.
If you’re a serial screamer and professionally gush over romcoms like me, Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry is your jam. You’re gonna taste it, savour it, gulp it down and still feel its aftertaste lingering in your tongue like that sweet sweet teenage dream long gone but never forgotten. It screams a little “To All The Boys” vibe, so if you were into that, you’re gonna devour this one too.
